Chamomile and green tea together offer something neither delivers alone — the calming properties of chamomile with the antioxidant depth of whole-leaf green tea.

Chamomile is one of the most widely consumed herbal teas in the world, usually drunk on its own before bed. Green tea is usually positioned as a morning drink. Pairing them sounds counterintuitive, but the combination works because green tea brewed at lower temperatures keeps caffeine low while retaining its antioxidant content. Blended with chamomile, it creates an evening cup that does not sacrifice nutritional value just to be caffeine-light.

The active compound in chamomile most associated with its calming effects is apigenin, a flavonoid that binds to GABA receptors in the brain — the same receptors that benzodiazepines act on, though far more gently. Research suggests chamomile can meaningfully reduce anxiety symptoms and improve sleep quality in people with mild insomnia.

Green tea brings EGCG, the primary catechin in green tea and one of the most researched antioxidants in the food supply. L-theanine promotes alpha-wave activity in the brain — relaxed alertness rather than sedation. In the evening, both chamomile and L-theanine point in the same direction: calm without grogginess.

Nevisan’s Chamomile Green uses whole chamomile flowers alongside Assam green tea leaves. Best kept around 75 to 80°C and steeped for no more than two minutes — chamomile can turn bitter if over-steeped, and green tea gets astringent above 90°C.
