While Darjeeling gets the headlines, Golaghat in upper Assam quietly produces some of the boldest, most complex teas in the world.
Ask most people to name an Indian tea region and they’ll say Darjeeling. The “Champagne of teas” has built an unmatched reputation over 150 years of marketing. But among tea professionals and serious drinkers, a different region commands deep respect: Golaghat, in upper Assam.
Golaghat sits in the Brahmaputra valley, where the soil is a unique combination of red clay, alluvial deposits from the river, and centuries of decomposed organic matter. The humidity is extreme — averaging 80% year round — and the temperature swings between seasons create a plant under constant gentle stress, which forces it to develop complex defensive compounds that translate directly into flavour.
Every Nevisan tea comes from a single garden in Golaghat. This matters because single-origin means traceability — you know exactly where your tea came from, who grew it, and how it was processed. There are no blends covering up lesser-quality leaves. What’s in the pack is exactly what grew in that garden.
This is the foundational commitment behind Nevisan: one origin, one standard, complete transparency.
